NOTE: this demo was done with the 1st generation neck pickup.

The  Gen-2 neck is so much better.

60's Custom set with all new Gen-2 pickups

This set is comprised of AVn-60b & AVn-60n Gen-2 singles (details in the Single Pickup section).

.....  as played and enjoyed by Aussie Troy Cassar-Daley who said "I was half expecting a plastic noiseless sound but I am more than delighted with these Kinman's"

These AVn-60 series pickups actually surpass the single coils in the 1960's white-edgebound Custom Tele.  Both pickups in the 60's Custom set are bright and twangy, have excellent definition, dynamics and high end cut n sizzle. Great for chickin pickin country lead or any other style.  That "Telecaster sound" ... the middle switch position, is remarkably pronounced.

There is intense piano mid-tone detail and lots of sharp but sweet twang .... and has Zero-Hum and zero microphonic screech.  Other features you will be delighted with is the balanced string levels and the minimization of string crash and rattle thanks to the low strength Alnico-K rod magnets, which, like all our Fender type pickups, string pull is minimized and sustain is longer.

Zero-Hum and wax potted for Zero microphonic screech.  However, be aware that magnetic steel bridges compromise the hum cancelling ability of our Tele bridge pickups.  The solution is a non-magnetic Stainless Steel bridge made by Glendale Guitars in Texas.  They make 4 different kinds of Tele bridge with various Cut-Aways designed for comfort.  Highly recommended.  https://glendaleguitars.com/stainless-steel/

Orders shipped after 30-April-2017 will have the Gen-2 upgrade.

We recommend you scroll to the Technical & Application Info section below for important stuff you should know about the new Neck pickup.

Best in a Kinman TK3 or TK4 Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Technical & Application info:

Some people will call these noiseless Telecaster pickups but Kinman prefers to describe them correctly as Zero-Hum Telecaster pickups.  That's because there are 2 types of noise, Hum which is cancelled in the pickup and Buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars

Bottom of bridge pickup. Bottom of neck pickup.

The all NEW Gen-2 version neck pickup is very different to it's original 1st generation predecessor.  The taller coil, longer magnets and Kinman's patented magnetic focusing device produces non-aged sound which is much more alive and open.  The sound has more pronounced twang and increased dynamic response for more fluid touch sensitivity (strings feel more relaxed).  It's louder and brighter too.

Thanks to our new hand buffed Nickel-Silver cover the neck pickup is not muffled as the original brass 60's Fender was, has open and clear Fender sound (and does not produce buzz when touched with fingers).  It has an arched top to allow staggered magnets for superb string loudness balance including the G-3rd.

We have a very nice non-noiseless Fender pickup here which we all agree is the best Tele neck pickup we have heard and is the equal of our old Fender Strat reference pickup.  The AVn-60n Gen-2 is actually the equal of the Fender in every way except it has no hum whatsoever.  This is a stunning achievement for a hum-cancelling pickup and what makes Kinman the King of Noiseless, and the AVn-60b and AVn-60n Gen-2 are our crowning glory.

Number of parts in this pickup: 31

Adjustment requirements

  • Please refer to >Technical >Adjust & Setup

Cavity depths required

  • All Teles including vintage spec models which have 16mm (5/8").

Connection means available

  • Bare wires for soldering.
  • Kinman connectors for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Hook-up wires

  • Cut generously longer than necessary for Telecasters.
  • Custom lengths by request with Order.
  • Bridge pickups have 2 or optional 3 conductor shielded or single wires.  The 3 mounting screws provide a ground link to the bridge/strings.
  • Neck pickup has 3 conductor shielded cable (suitable for series connection of 4 pos switch -and- phase reversible -and- compatible with Fender's S1 harness).

Output Polarity:

  • Both pickups are Phase reversible when specified with 3 single hook-up wires so can adapt to any companion pickups.

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Great Tele sound with 250k volume pot.  A 500k volume pot makes the twang sharper.  Both are good.
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 170k and 350k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 250k and 500k respectively.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller value reduces the severity of Treble cut, larger values increase it.

Magnet spreads

  • Bridge 55mm (standard) slanted mount resolves to 53.5mm
  • Neck 50mm (standard)

Magnet Staggers

  • Normal improved Stagger to suit 7 ~ 14 inch range uniform radius fretboards
  • Flat Stagger for specific compound radius fretboards (Warmoth 10 ~ 16 inch and Post 2010 Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14")
  • Option to specify the magnet stagger of sets and singles in our 'After-Payment Supplementary Questions' email we send you.

Dimensions

Mounting hardware included

  • 3 Pan head mounting screws 6-32 UNC x 18mm for bridge.
  • 2 Pan head mounting screws 4-40 UNC x 18mm for neck.
  • 5 Silicon Rubber tube springs.

Covers

  • Tele bridge pickups don't have covers, the top coil is bound with period correct black twine and wax potted for protection.
  • NEW Tele neck pickup has electro-Chrome or Gold plated Nickel-Silver or hand buffed Natural Nickel-Silver (great for relicing) cover for extended durability and zero impact on sonic performance.  Matching mounting screws.
  • Arched top to accommodate staggered magnets for perfect string volume balance.
  • With or without Kinman logo.

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.

We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.

** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985.  It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.
